pretty as you feel: posting links to facebook

facebook-small-logo-300x300nothing major today, and maybe not new to many of you. just something I stumbled across while posting a link to my facebook stream. my discovery – you don’t have to settle for the text facebook includes with your link by default.

customizing link text in facebook

in my case, it was a funny ecard from someecards.com:

someecards offers a wealth of sharing options (they didn’t need to wait to see the nyt article on sharing links being big business). clicking the facebook link brings up this screen:

look familiar? facebook lets me decide which image I want on the linked page (or to have no image at all) but I wasn’t crazy about all the extra text that came along for the ride. then I noticed that when I moused over the text, the cursor changed to edit mode, and when I clicked, I was able to play with the text:

snip snip and the thing was done. my link looked like it just spent a week at betty ford – clean, clean, clean:

  • It would be really cool to be able to put in a default phrase to use instead of the title, and even more awesome if you could then incorporate a field in wordpress that allowed you to modify that for the post if you so desired.
